The Camera’s Eye Method™ is an image-first screenwriting and visual storytelling methodology developed by filmmaker, writer, and instructor Emily Robyn Clark and offered through Modern Mythic Productions, LLC, a creative production and consulting company.

Instead of beginning with structures and outlines, The Camera’s Eye Method™ teaches writers to engage first with the image. The screenplay becomes a testament to what the camera sees. This method allows the story to emerge through the dialect of the image, removing the writer’s need for control and allowing the story to emerge through observation and discovery.

Current Workshop Offerings:

Seeing Feelingly: A Visual Study in Screenwriting (4-Session Series)

Seeing Feelingly is a guided creative writing workshop for screenwriters, filmmakers, and creatives who
want to deepen their understanding of screenwriting and cinematic language.
As Gloucester says in King Lear, “I see it feelingly.” This idea is the workshop’s central tenet; an
invitation to perceive through both sight and feeling.

Using my original screenwriting methodology, The Camera’s Eye, I lead students through visual-first,
attentive discovery, then into the exploration of emotionally resonant memories, and finally into
synthesis with their writing. Over the course of four sessions, students will learn to see as a camera
sees: to watch, listen, and record with the five senses without judgment or projected meaning. They
will learn to rely on their own inner landscapes to supply emotional truth, and to integrate outer
observation with inner discovery to craft scenes that ring authentic, cinematic, and emotionally true.
In each session, we will look at carefully curated film excerpts, screenplays, short stories, and other
works that model visual storytelling, authentic dialogue, and emotional resonance.

Each new session will build upon the previous with observational assignments and additional
optional reading/viewing materials in-between class including Robert Bresson’s Notes on
Cinematography, Flannery O’Connor’s short stories, Andrei Tarkovsky’s films “Mirror” and “Stalker,”
and Chris Marker’s short film, “La Jetée.” In the final session, students will be invited to share their
photographs and screenplay scenes in a supportive, collaborative circle, and will be encouraged to
provide critiques of each other's work. I will also provide my own individual feedback on each piece.
This workshop is great for creatives who want to explore cinematic writing in a surprising, fresh
way.

Students will leave with:
· An observational journal
· A 60 still photography scene
· A written scene without dialogue
· A written scene with dialogue
· A repeatable process for creating emotionally resonant and visually attuned screenplays.

The Camera’s Eye Method™ is currently being developed as a book, workshop series, and teaching framework through Modern Mythic Productions, LLC.
